The Capstone Course is a 3 month short accredited course specially prepared by experts in various fields. It is for interested students to have a taste that will awaken their thirst for deeper knowledge on the subject matter entailed. Though they are short, they are nonetheless intense and clinical in terms of delivery and content. Students are meant to do extra readings and research on topics contained in these courses. This course is essential for the young intellectual Muslim mind to understand the purpose for Allah’s Shari’a for mankind. This course elaborates the five main objectives of Shari’a as they are popularly known and their applications as far as our contemporary times are concerned. We delve into the classical understanding of Maqasid ranging from the classical contributions of great scholars like Fahkruddin Razi, Al Juwayni, Al Ghazali, As-Shatibi, Ibn Ashur and so on. We also look at contemporary dynamics of the Maqasid and what current scholars have to offer. This course gives the student the analytical tools to see through the challenges faced by Muslims in today’s world in order to maintain an Islamic outlook on the issues of civil and criminal law in a contemporary setting.
This course offers the student a brief but insightful take on the history of Hadith sciences; how it developed and how it is faring today. The student will have an understanding with regards to the major terminologies of Hadith grading. The course offers a biographical review of the main texts of Hadith especially the 6 books and their importance. Students will have an opportunity here to probe the current challenges regarding the Hadith realm and how to contend with the attacks directed at this sacred science with knowledge.
In this course, students will learn the exciting formulas and approach of the scholars of Islam since the first generation in deducing and understanding the intended Ahkam (rulings) of Allah the Most High. Students will have a vivacious expose of how some jurisprudential points evolve as times and circumstances changed and how some remain static perpetually. The foundations of Fiqh is a prerequisite subject for all students of Islamic sciences to contend with in order to have a strong understanding of the rules (ahkam). The definitions of relevant terminologies and their examples from the sources of Shari’a and the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet upon whom be peace are prime in this course.
